HERITAGE SOCIETY
The members of the Heritage Society have made an outright or planned gift to the YMCA’s
Endowment Fund. The YMCA only uses the interest from the Endowment; the principal is left to
grow. In this way we give everyone the security of knowing that the Penobscot Bay YMCA will
continue to be a strong, positive force in the lives of youth and families in our midcoast
communities for generations to come.
Proceeds are used to enhance programs, grant scholarships, begin new programs or improve
facilities. The Endowment Committee of the Board of Directors has the responsibility for the
management of these funds. This includes the fund’s preservation, growth and intended use.
The benefits from your endowment gift will help perpetuate the work of the Y for years to come.
Gifts to the endowment may be unrestricted or designated to a specific program.
Gifts take many forms including a bequest through one’s will or trust, appreciated assets such as
stock, naming the YMCA as the beneficiary of a life insurance policy or retirement account, or by
making a direct cash contribution. A gift can be structured to provide financial security for the
donor and his/her heirs while maximizing its impact for the Y.
