MEMBERSHIP POLICY
Who shall be eligible to hold membership in this corporation?
Individuals of all race, sex, religion or ethnicity have the right, and are encouraged, to be a part of the Penobscot Bay
YMCA. However, the protection of our members and guests participating in our programs and/or using our facilities is
a paramount interest of the YMCA. The YMCA reserves the right to deny / terminate access or membership to
any person who has been accused or convicted of any crime involving sexual abuse; is a registered sex
offender; or who has demonstrated unlawful conduct that may be conceived as a threat to the well being
of YMCA members and guests.
What standard of conduct will YMCA members be expected to adhere to while a part of this organization?
The Penobscot Bay YMCA expects persons using our facility and programs to behave in mature and responsible way
and to respect the rights and dignity of others. The Penobscot Bay YMCA Code of Conduct does not permit language
or actions that can hurt or frighten another person. Specifically, this includes:
- Any demonstration of sexual activity or sexual contact with another person.
- Inappropriate attire.
- Angry or vulgar language, including swearing, name calling or shouting.
- Physical contact with another person in an angry or threatening manner.
- Harassment or intimidation by words, gestures, body language or any other menacing behavior.
- Theft or behavior that results in destruction of property.
- Carrying or concealing weapons or devises and objects that may be used as weapons.
- Using or possessing illegal chemicals, or alcohol, on YMCA property, in YMCA vehicles or at YMCA sponsored
programs.
- Any other conduct of an inappropriate, threatening or offensive nature.
Members and guests are encouraged to be responsible for their personal comfort and safety by asking any
person whose behavior is in violation of the code of conduct listed above to stop the offensive behavior. If
a member feels uncomfortable confronting the person directly, they should report it immediately to a staff person or
the Manager on Duty.
Members and guests should not hesitate to notify a staff person if assistance is needed. Please do not hesitate in
requesting help. Our staff is here to help make the YMCA the best part of your day.
The Executive Director will review all reported incidents. If a violation of the code of conduct has occurred the decision
to suspend or terminate YMCA membership privileges will be made at the discretion of the Executive Director.
